The Setup: Bankruptcy and Broken Pride
Before Lindy met her husband Gavin, he had declared bankruptcy. That chapter in his life would teach him lasting lessons about humility and God’s provision. It was a preparation ground. Because as Lindy says, “You don’t know how strong your faith is until faith is all you have.”
They would need every ounce of that faith when Gavin lost his job. With three children to care for and bills looming, the couple made a decision that would change everything—they launched a business on a simple card table in their living room.
“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”
— Philippians 4:19 (NIV)
Living Lean, Leaning on God
The early days of their business weren’t glamorous. The Dicksons relied on food banks, extreme budgeting, and prayer. It was a season marked by scarcity, but also by God's closeness. Instead of hiding their situation, they leaned into community, humility, and the promises of God.
Lindy recalls those years not just as difficult, but also sacred. “You look back and realize God was doing deep work in us, not just around us,” she says. Even when they didn’t have much, they had peace—and that was priceless.
“Consider it pure joy... whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”
— James 1:2-3 (NIV)
Divine Setup for Marketplace Ministry
While navigating lean times, God was orchestrating something behind the scenes. Gavin’s experience in the public school system—particularly in PEIMS (Public Education Information Management System)—became the foundation for their now-thriving educational consulting business, Dickson Tree Academy.
But their business isn’t just about serving schools. It’s about bringing the love of Christ into spaces that often don’t welcome overt faith. As Lindy puts it, “Our business is our marketplace ministry.” Their clients may not always know it, but they’re being ministered to through integrity, kindness, and excellence.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”
— Colossians 3:23 (NIV)
Prophetic Words and God’s Timing
Seventeen years ago, Lindy and Gavin received a prophetic word about their future. It spoke of provision, purpose, and peace—but it didn't happen overnight. Through this long journey, Lindy learned the difference between receiving a word from God and walking through the development required to live it out.
Today, much of that prophetic vision has come to life in surprising ways—including the recent purchase of two homes, one of which is a peaceful property in Arkansas. It’s a physical manifestation of the rest and restoration they once could only imagine.
“For the vision is yet for an appointed time... though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come.”
— Habakkuk 2:3 (NKJV)
Be With Him Before Doing For Him
Perhaps the most impactful moment in Lindy’s testimony comes when she shares what she’s learning now: that God is more interested in being with us than in what we do for Him. “You can be busy building for God, but miss the beauty of just being with Him,” she explains.
That’s a timely reminder for any believer—especially those of us in business, ministry, or service. God doesn’t need our performance. He desires our presence.
“Remain in me, as I also remain in you... apart from me you can do nothing.”
— John 15:4-5 (NIV)
